Continuing Education and Scholarship Program Thesis Publication Assistance

One of the schemes under which the Continuing Education and Scholarship Program Committee (CESPC) promotes educational research among librarians is to provide publication assistance for the publication of outstanding Masters Thesis in Library and Information Science. The following are the policies and procedures for seeking the publication assistance

Policies for Publication Assistance

  • An applicant should come from an ALBASA member institution of good standing as defined by the ALBASA By-Laws.
  • An applicant must be permanently employed for at least three consecutive years prior to the application and duly endorsed by the school head.
  • An applicant, who is not financed earlier by any organization, may apply for assistance.
  • The application for publication assistance for a Masters thesis must be submitted by the author on the prescribed pro-forma.
  • A Masters thesis, which is older than five years from oral defense, is not accepted for assistance. In case, the examiners/reviewers of the Masters thesis have recommended revision, the author is to first revise the thesis as suggested by the examiners/reviewers and the revised version is to be submitted to the committee for final approval.
  • The applicant must submit the duly accomplished approval sheet. It should be accompanied by an abstract of the thesis in about 200 to 300 words covering the objectives, methodology and main findings of the thesis.
  • The CSEPC will then get the thesis for evaluation and will inform the applicant whether the thesis is acceptable for publication assistance or not. The decision of the CESPC is final.

General Conditions for Release of Assistance

  • The assistance is admissible only if the Masters degree is on Library and Information Science and it has been awarded within a period of 5 years from the date of application.
  • The total amount of the assistance is Fifteen Thousand Pesos (P15, 000.00). The first installment amounting to 50% of the estimated expenditures not exceeding P7, 500.00, will be released after the applicant has accepted the terms and conditions of the assistance and the approval of the CESPC is communicated to the applicant. The remaining assistance of P7, 500.00 would be released after the receipt of one complimentary copy and publication bills in detail.
  • Due recognition of the ALBASA assistance shall be included in the acknowledgment page of the final copy.
